On Thursday night, the 1st XI had a great start to the season with a 5-2 win over St Kevins in Oamaru. The entire team played very well, especially without any subs due to sickness and injury. The afternoon chill meant that the team took part of the first half to warm into the game. St Kevins managed to sneak in two goals during this time but one of our captains, Mia Burtenshaw, responded with two great shots to counter this, assisted by Kera Donaldson. We finished the first half with Charlotte Fenn, who took advantage of a free kick to score a very impressive goal.
Player of the day went to Lilou Caspritz, who had an amazing game on the right wing! Well done to all our new players, that was an impressive debut with the 1st XI. Very proud of all the girls, that Macca’s trip was well deserved.
The Second XI played against Waitaki Girls' High. Everyone came together to give it their all on the field, and there were a lot of laughs and high fives.
Charlotte McKenzie had a excellent spell as goal keeper at the start of the first half. Jessie McLeod kept the back line together to try to stop some of the relentless Waitaki attackers. Charlotte Shrimpton showed her footwork in running around several of their defenders. Charli Collins had a phenomenal half as goal keeper in the second half of the game.
In the end, the win went to Waitaki Girls', but Craighead's Second XI developed significantly as a team. We're looking forward to the season ahead.
