Kia Ora! I am honoured to introduce myself as Renette Van Heerden, Sports Captain for 2024 at Craighead. It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I embark on this journey of leadership with Lydia Giles. It is a blessing and rather exciting to be working alongside Lydia, steering our sporting community in the right direction for the remainder of the year!
Sports have been an integral part of my life since childhood, instilled within me by my family's deep involvement with sports. Whether it was playing, coaching, officiating, or just supporting, my passion for being involved in sports has always coursed through my veins. Having this opportunity to channel this passion into a leadership role, is not only a privilege, but something I am deeply grateful for.
From a young age, I immersed myself in a multitude of sports, from netball to basketball, tennis, swimming, athletics, and volleyball. This engagement with various sports has not only honed my skills but has also afforded me the privilege of representing South Canterbury in numerous competitions and also given me the opportunity to be selected for numerous camps to train and compete with some amazing people. These experiences have shaped my understanding of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. These qualities are what I am eager to impart and foster within the Craighead sporting community.
As we reflect on the achievements of the past term, I am filled with pride at the accomplishments of our Craighead students. Their dedication, resilience, and sportsmanship have set a commendable standard for excellence, one that I am is to uphold and surpass in the coming months. My aspiration for this final year is to cultivate an environment where every student feels supported, challenged and has the opportunity or confidence to play and join as many codes as they want.
I am profoundly grateful for the privilege of serving as Sports Captain for 2024. Let us embark on this journey together, united in our passion for sports and unwavering in our pursuit of excellence.
