My name is Camryn Porter and I am thrilled to be appointed as the Head Girl for 2024! I can not express my gratitude for being appointed to this role enough. I am blessed to be working alongside Sophie Mulder who is the Deputy Head Girl for 2024. It is a key focus of ours to together cultivate an environment of connectedness and support at Craighead through our roles this year.
During my time at Craighead, I have made the most of the wide range of activities offered to me. Through opportunities in academic, arts, sporting and cultural activities I have been able to grow and learn about myself. It was through experience that I discovered my main interest was in sport.
The team environment of sport is most appealing to me. I play netball and volleyball for Craighead and have also represented South Canterbury in both. I also do athletics, mainly competing in High Jump. In each of these sports, I have had an opportunity to make connections with people in different year groups or schools that I otherwise would never have made. I especially value the experience of tournaments because of how they help to develop these friendships through sharing our successes and losses. Athletics Nationals in New Plymouth, Volleyball Nationals in Palmerston North and SISS Netball in Invercargill have been clear highlights of my time at Craighead because of this. As well as playing, I have loved coaching junior netball and volleyball teams over the past few years.
Although I have no solid idea what I plan to do as I leave Craighead at the end of this year, I am certain sport will still be a part of my life. I expect I will go to University to continue my education as academia is another passion of mine. I currently find myself most drawn to maths, so I see myself studying something in this area.
I have not looked too far forward to the future yet as I am far too excited about the current year and what it has to offer! It promises to be busy based on how much has gone on in these first few weeks. I look forward to the challenges 2024 offers and wish everyone the best!
