Craighead Diocesan School has a whole school approach to student wellbeing. Our Pastoral care system includes whanau teachers, Year level Deans, Chaplain, Guidance Counsellor, School Nurse, SENCo, Boarding House staff and the Senior Leadership team.

For Terms One and Two, I will be covering the Guidance Counsellor role while I complete my Post Graduate studies in this field.

As a Counsellor I work professionally and ethically under the NZAC Code of Ethics. Our aim at Craighead is to support students to achieve their personal best academically, emotionally and socially. A Counsellors role is to advocate for those who are disempowered. They can also offer mediation and restorative meetings.

Teenage years can often be a challenging time and it may be beneficial to talk to someone. Counsellors are trained to support students and help them explore issues/concerns and to find new ideas or ways of coping to develop resilience and empowerment.

In counselling, students can talk in a safe non-judgemental place. Counselling can help students:

- Reduce stress and improve relationships

- Set goals and plans

- Build a sense of self identity

- Link in with other external agencies

To make an appointment students can self-refer via email or be referred through a parent or member of the school community. My contact details are fairbrotherki@craighead.school.nz OR counsellor@craighead.school.nz
